The FUE Procedure
Dr. Joseph Galitzin oversees all aspects of follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplantation, including preparation and recovery.
Our team can answer all your questions and ensure you know exactly what to expect during the FUE procedure, which can take several hours.
A hair transplant treatment at our Atlanta, GA, office begins with a consultation...

First, We Will Evaluate Your Condition
During your initial consultation, the doctor and his team will review your medical history, assess the extent and cause of your hair loss, and discuss your desired hair transplant outcomes.
In general, FUE hair transplant treatment at our Atlanta practice is an appropriate treatment option if:
- You are unhappy with the thickness of your hair
- You are concerned with a receding hairline
- You want to be able to wear your hair short
- You are not a good candidate for strip harvesting
- You are interested in a permanent method of hair restoration
- You would like to minimize the number of anesthetic injections you require
In addition, we recommend that hair transplant candidates:
Quit Smoking
If you are a smoker, it is recommended that you quit prior to your hair transplant procedure. Nicotine restricts the flow of oxygen to your blood and can result in poor wound healing. This is a good time to quit because smoking can also slow hair growth and lead to further hair loss.
Minimize Alcohol
You should also refrain from drinking for the time period recommended by your doctor before undergoing a transplant, as alcohol can cause swelling, inflammation, and excessive bleeding during treatment.
Review Medications
Certain medications, including anticoagulants, can also interfere with hair transplant surgery, and you should provide Dr. Galitzin with a full list of medications during your consultation.
The Next Step: Preview Your Results
In order to plan and refine your hair restoration treatment at our Atlanta office, Dr. Galitzin will use ARTAS® Hair Studio®, a software program that generates 3-D before and after images of your hair transplant procedure. Working together, you can adjust the number of grafts, distribution of hair follicles, and direction of hair to meet your FUE hair transplant expectations.

Understanding How Robotic Hair Transplant Works
What Makes this Hair Transplant Method So Effective?
ARTAS is equipped with a high-definition stereoscopic vision system, which allows for incredible accuracy and minimal impact on the surrounding tissue. This extraction method is minimally invasive and does not require strip surgery. It maintains the natural appearance of the donor area and results in even more natural-looking hair growth in the treatment site, without a linear scar.
During transplantation at the Hair Restoration Institute of Georgia, Dr. Galitzin is able to control several dimensions of the hair:
- Angle
- Density
- Distribution
- Direction
These customizable parameters allow Dr. Galitzin to create results that uniquely complement your features. Throughout the entire procedure, the team at our Atlanta office will be on-hand to ensure that you are comfortable. However, most patients who have undergone an FUE hair transplant describe it as virtually pain-free.
Over 1,500 Units Per Session
"On average, our team harvests approximately 1,700 follicular units per session. This allows for extremely natural-looking results."
Recovering
from Your Hair Transplant
Since FUE is minimally invasive, the recovery time is relatively short compared to other hair restoration methods. Most patients are able to sleep comfortably and return to work or normal activities within one to two days after their hair loss treatment.
Styling and Results
Immediately following a hair transplant at the Hair Restoration Institute of Georgia in Atlanta, the hair follicles are shocked and will need some time to recover. Within several weeks of the procedure, areas of hair loss will start to fill in. Your full hair transplant results should become apparent about six months after the transplant. FUE patients can wear virtually any hairstyle, including very close-cropped hair, without the worry of a visible linear scar.
